We're still waiting...

Hello and welcome.

The problem with the future is that it's been 'just around the corner' for far too long. As a result we don't care about it and yet at the same time we want new things as quickly as they can be manufactured, boxed and shipped to our doors. We welcome the immediate future but not the bigger picture.

We want the newest phones, computers, TVs, kitchen appliances and cars but we don't ever think to look even a few years ahead at the really important stuff. I'm not saying the latest things are un-important because that's exactly what brings on change. If we go out and buy a new phone we make profit for the company and if something sells well they can make improvements and cut back costs which in turn makes it cheaper for us to buy. And so on and so forth....

The problem lies with the fact that as a whole we are still scared about the future and the change that it will inevitably bring. I find this completely ridiculous because in many ways the future is already here. Look around you, look at all the things mentioned above that you welcome into your life, look at the Internet! But there's still a voice in your head saying 'It won't happen' and 'everything will remain the same as it always has'. We shouldn't try and compare the past with where we are today, instead we should compare today with the future.

My point is that while looking back to the past is important it has never been so important to look forward. There are many other factors that need to be considered that go far beyond consumer electronics but i will save those for another day. For the time being i ask you all to pull up a seat, sit back and enjoy because we are entering a new age, and this time it really is 'just around the corner'.
